Meet The Fall ’23 Regent: Georgia Hancock!

Georgia is a senior Biomedical Engineering major gearing up to leave Madison this spring. She rushed her sophomore spring semester in 2021, she wanted to rush sooner but covid held her back. Theta Tau was on her radar because she felt that the community you can find with students all sharing the interests of engineering/STEM is much stronger than those found elsewhere. The appeal of TT’s professional development and strong brotherhood was also a large factor because of how different these characteristics are compared to the traditional Greek life found on campus.

She jumped right into her years with TT as she has held five previous chair positions including: birthday, apparel, professional development, social, and vice regent. Naturally her favorite position so far has been vice regent where she was able to work with every member and help balance the ever so important pillars of Theta Tau. She worked closely with the regent and saw just how different the positions are which prompted her to run for regent this semester. Vice regent balances and provides resources while the regent focuses more on the overall improvement of the fraternity and also how they work nationally with other chapters. This then goes into one of her highlights with TT being last year’s Midwest Regional conference where she was able to meet those other chapters and connect with even more engineers. Some other highlights of hers are brotherhood events like retreats, last semester’s murder mystery party, and her pledge skip day.

This semester Georgia hopes to help the continuous improvement of TT in general by taking constructive criticism from as many members as possible to help meet everyone’s needs. This was evident at this last brotherhood retreat where she led a thoughtful full group discussion about what each member wanted to see changed this semester. She then wants to hopefully see younger pledge classes engaging more with committees and chair positions and see these committees working together to help facilitate a smoother semester.

Georgia wants to continue seeing those wonderful TT traditions everyone loves like Food Fridays, retreats, and resume review sessions grow in size but also evolve. For example, brotherhood retreat only recently became a tradition but is now one of the most anticipated events. Now for the spring semester, Georgia wants to find another regent who is organized and self motivated. This is because with such a fast growing community, Theta Tau needs a leader who will truly want only what’s best for the legacy of TT. This regent should also be flexible with feedback and be willing to adapt to any situation that may come their way. Lastly, It is most important to understand how different Theta Tau is from other Greek life on campus and take that knowledge to help lead TT to a promising future.

Georgia is already showing such amazing improvement in the fraternity and we can’t wait to see what the future holds with TT in her hands!
