With the start of the fall semester in full force, Theta Tau has begun preparing for all to come. Our new regent, Frances Palmer, took the initiative early on in the summer to keep the fraternity on top of things and ready for action! She was elected to this position while studying abroad this past spring. Frances is a senior from Northborough, Massachusetts majoring in Civil Engineering.
Why Theta Tau…
When asked about becoming a member of Theta Tau, Frances said, “I joined Theta Tau my second semester of freshman year because I was drawn to the welcoming attitudes of the members and all that the fraternity had to offer.”
She passionately added, “I loved how TT offered the ability to build friendships among other engineering students while also providing professional development skills that I was not exposed to before.”
Frances as Regent…
Frances has previously held the positions of Academic Chair, Vice Regent, and Marshal. She says that these positions have “helped me learn how to effectively run meetings, organize events, and engage members.” With her own strong engagement in the fraternity, Frances ran for regent with a purpose. “I ran for regent simply because I love Theta Tau and all of the members. I also believe that I have grown tremendously over my 3 years at UW, and I associate part of that growth to my involvement in TT. I not only want to help Theta Tau grow into the best organization that it can be, but also all of the individual members as well. I’m hoping that my passion for TT can encourage all current and new members to be as involved as possible and benefit from TT as much as I have.”
Frances has begun planning events over the summer and has been keeping in contact with each Chair Position. She is promoting everyone to brainstorm new ideas in order to “provide each member with as many beneficial opportunities as possible.” In addition, she says, “Along with more event planning, I want to increase our overall member involvement and attendance.”
Frances studied abroad in Budapest during the Spring of 2019 at the Budapest Institute of Technology and Economics. While there, she was able to travel all across Europe and had an amazing time. She was voted into regency while in a different country – this shows how much confidence TT members have in her to be the best regent possible.
Frances has quickly proven her commitment to her position as regent this semester, and we look forward to seeing where she takes us. Good luck, Frances!
