On February 29, 2020 Theta Tau Xi Chapter hosted the annual Midwest Regional Conference. Members Laura Yurik and Josie Beres did an excellent job planning a weekend of learning, building connections, and having fun. Six chapters attended, with Kappa chapter (University of Illinois, Urbana Champaign) winning the award for most miles traveled.
This year regionals happened to be on leap day, which gave us the opportunity to reflect on the past four years and make new plans for the future. We performed leap day skits that showcased what we hope to accomplish before the next leap year.
We also had the opportunity to hear Josh Orendi from Phired Up speak about recruiting and retaining members. His empowering and upbeat speech encouraged us to be more proactive in the recruiting process. We learned the importance of making a lasting first impression on potential new members and how to present our best selves. After all, “people don’t join fraternities, they join people.”
Following lunch we got to attend various workshops lead by Xi chapter members. Workshops included Rush & Recruitment, Brotherhood, Leadership & Structure, Pledging Process, Fundraising, Team-building/Icebreakers, Nationals Prep, and Professional Development. It was a great chance to share the differences between our chapters.
Finally regionals ended with a dinner banquet at the Discovery Building. We dressed in florals and had a fun time taking pictures and enjoying a nice meal together.
It was an amazing weekend of building connections and getting to know our Midwest brothers!
